Gorgeous dark red romaine lettuce. Heads get dense enough to grill, or use as a cut-and-come-again lettuce. Because of its upright, compact habit, Red Romaine is great for small spaces and shallow soil.
All lettuces are among the most cold-tolerant of vegetables, and grow well through the winter in mild winter climates.
We do best starting lettuces in Orta pots and planting them out when they’re big enough to survive a slug attack (about 4” tall).
To save seed, just leave one plant to bolt, and collect the seeds from the fluffy seed heads when they’re dry.
