"Game Changer!"

"I have been using these olla pots in my vegetable beds for close to a year, so I have gotten to see what a game changer they are. I used to have to water my veggies every three days. Now, with the ollas, I refill the ollas every 10-14 days, depending on the time of year, and no longer have to hand water. It is a huge time saver, and the ollas deliver water to my plants much more efficiently than I ever could. I cannot recommend these pots highly enough. I would give them 10 stars if I could!"  - Gretchen, June 2022

Have you ever wondered if you're watering right??

It can be really quite mysterious.

Are you over watering?  🤷🏽‍♀️

Are you under watering? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Is the water from hand-watering penetrating to the roots? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Will the house sitter water properly while you're on vacation? 🤷🏽‍♀️

Is the drip system even working? 🤷🏽‍♀️ 🤷🏽‍♀️ 🤷🏽‍♀️

Let us help you with peace of mind!

Orta Ollas are porous terracotta vessels,  buried in the ground.  They seep water exactly where your plants need it:  underground, at the roots.

Watering is consistent, predictable, and never over-saturated.

Easy to install, easy to understand.

Just fill them up as they empty, about every 10 days, depending on the weather.

Also, can we talk about plastics?

Until I discovered Ollas, I thought the gold standard for watering was drip irrigation, or its budget cousin, soaker hoses.

Did you know most soaker hoses are made from recycled tires?  Which is great for waste reduction, but do you really want to be seeping car tire chemicals into your vegetables?  Me neither.

And while drip tubing is made from a much safer plastic, it's still plastic, and bits end up in the soil.

When it comes to growing vegetables for my family, better safe than sorry is my attitude towards plastics in the garden.

You can rest easy knowing there is *no* plastic in Orta ollas, nor are there any toxins in our clay recipe!

We manufacture in California and disclose all our ingredients.  We constantly strive for the safest possible formulations.

I've gradually converted my vegetable beds to ollas over the last 2 years.  In the end it took 28 ollas total to cover my two main veggie beds, which are 14 feet long and 4 feet wide.

Here are some more cool details:

Orta Ollas are submarine shaped to water more evenly along rows in a rectangular veggie bed.

And see those cute little ears?

That's how you know which way it's pointing once it's been buried.

How much space does each olla water?

In heavier clay soils, water travels more horizontally, and you can place Ollas around 3 feet apart.

In lighter, sandier soils, we recommend about 2 feet apart.

Deeper rooted plants can be farther from the olla and still reach its cone of moisture.  Shallower rooted plants should be planted closer to the olla.
